Auntie Brenda's Cake

I was so excited to make a cake for my aunt Brenda. (of all the Brenda's I know, she is my most favorite.) BUT I couldn't decide how to decorate it. I tried going to her son, Wesley, for ideas. He wasn't much help, bless his heart. My mom reminded me that Brenda loves owls and I decided to go with that. I made a french vanilla cake with cream cheese filling. I served it with strawberry ice cream and it was DElicious. If I do say so myself. (and I do.)

This is what I came up with:

Boys boys boys....

I've had a lot of fun doing cakes for little boys lately! Cousins, nephews, customers, and my bosses son. It's kind of embarrassing to think of how long it took me to learn how to draw the lines on a basket ball, or to figure out how in the heck to draw a soccer ball. I'm getting to be a bit of an expert now. I even decided to try out my first fondant cake (batman themed), which turned out better than expected.

This is how they turned out:

Just a little about me.

It all started with a simply decorated Turtle Cake at Maggie Moos. I had been working there for a few months when my boss, Camille, said she was going to train me to make the cakes. I was so excited (and nervous!) as she taught me how to prepare the piping bag and make a simple star border around the cake. Ever since that day, I've been hooked! Cakes, cupcakes, cookies-whatever! Just give me something to decorate and I'm a happy camper. I have had so much fun learning and I'm excited to have a place to share some of my successes-and failures-as I continue to learn.

Here are a few of my favorite creations so far:

Oh and...P.S. Feel free to give me more reasons to decorate. ;)
